More California Gold for Prairie Berry Winery
POSTED: MAY 11, 2009HILL CITY, SD – Prairie Berry Winery was recently awarded a Gold Medal each at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition for their Red Ass Rhubarb wine, a semi-sweet blend of rhubarb and raspberries; and their 2008 LaCrescent, a dry white wine made from South Dakota grown grapes of the same name.
At the annual Pacific Rim International Wine Competition, in San Bernardino, California, judges from around the world come together to critically assess the best wines available from wineries in North and South America, New Zealand, and Australia.
The competition hosts an additional 5-day wine tasting and education event at the National Orange Show Fair, held over Memorial Day weekend. Winning wines from the competition are poured again in October for attendees to the National Orange Show Foundation Fundraiser, “Wine and Food Under the Stars,” which helps sponsor nursing and health education scholarship programs.
Prairie Berry Winery has accumulated 341 medals and accolades for 42 different wines since first entering competitions in 2001. Fifth generation winemaker Sandi Vojta and her husband, Matt Keck, moved Prairie Berry to its current Hill City location from Rapid City in 2004. Found three and a half miles northeast of Hill City on Highway 385, the winery’s Tasting Room is open to the public daily, year-round.
